Definition

My definition of single camera production - Using one camera to produce a product
The real definition in my words- Media created using only one camera.

Benefits and Disadvantages

Benefits:

-Low Budget - Using one camera.

-Easier to carry around, Faster.

-Directors have more control over each shot.

Disadvantages:

-Keep moving, time consuming

-More cameras, if one breaks, you have more.

-Hard to reproduce a scene- Continuity.

Continuity

Using single camera production is very hard to keep continuity.

Continuity is when something matches in different shots for example there would be a burger half eaten and then in another shot where the burger isn't eaten at all.

It is very important in single camera production because you are filming the same scene over and over again at different times in different angles, so you have to make sure everything matches at each time in every angle.

We were filming a scene before and our main character was wearing a different pair of shoes than he was wearing in the shots we had shot a time before. After filming this scene successfully in the editing of the scene we then realised the error of continuity which meant we had to delete the whole scene and arrange to film the scene again.

Idea

Brief

So far that ideas are going to around in the sixth form, because this is what the story-line for the drama will be based around. Also the style of the drama will be Memento based, and this means that the beginning of the story will be starting at the very end, however because our group have chosen to try and pick this style this means that it has to be presented with a great amount of detail.

Storyline

The storyline of my drama film is that two teenage boys who grew up together from a young age. The characters Stevie Green (Lewis Hall) and Hugo Dalton (Tom Hordle) friendship grows. Although Hugo Dalton who is homosexual but no one knows about his sexuality. He starts to fancy his best friend. Stevie Green who has a crush on a girl, ignores Hugo's signs and starts to treat him badly, Hugo builds up depression until the point of when he writes a letter about Stevie and then goes on to commit suicide. The police arrive at Stevie's house to inform the news of Hugo's death. Stevie takes the blame and police take him to the station to use as evidence.

Equipment/Assets required

DLSR Camera

Because this is a Single Camera Production the camera that will be chosen will need to be the same one for every shot depending on different dates. This camera will also hold the same data that will be recorded from it and that it should be saved carefully.

The tripod will help make sure that shots will stay still and this means that user can manual focus without trying to keep the camera still, the cameraman can also pan and tilt the camera using a handling which gives out a more smooth transition.

Locations

Because the storyline is based around a school student this will include different areas of a college, this can include the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria or gym. Also the main character has two different sides to them I think that the school and his home both have a completely different appearance and presentations towards the audience. The school is his gateway of being free or in other words "released" and it creates a positive outlook for the characters and the audience. His home will contrast the school and be dull and boring, while it shows that the happiness quickly disappears, its time for him to make sure he can be looked after while their parents are constantly causing trouble.

Costumes

The characters will be wearing casual clothes. Hugo will be wearing a tracksuit, it represents his character well. Warm and cosy yet outgoing and confident.

Whereas Stevie will be wearing more casual clothes and normal clothing as he is a very simple character.

Location Shots

Inter Cut

Shots of the location to set the theme, throughout the conversation of the main characters overlapping in the background.

Shot framing,angles and movement

When filming in scene two we wanted to do a continuous shot covering across the room whilst the conversation of and interview is happening. Whilst doing this we tried a few takes but throughout filming we had to give the camera to another member of crew as one of our large lights were in the way, when passing the camera over it shook a little bit causing the frame of the camera to move ruining the shot we had made. We then decided to just remove the shot and just go for different angles of the interview using creative and technical ways to make it more unique.
