Sound Editing

Sound editing is important in films because it can help connect the audience with the film with emotions and character, its also used in the film to create different perceptions perceived by the people that are watching. Sound editing is one of the main factors that help give a film its final form.

Why do we edit sound?

-Effect

-Keep audience interested

-Builds enigma

-Sometimes you can't hear the sound properly in the film

-Gives audience the feeling of being right with the character

-Used to make the mood more exaggerated

-Ambience Sound

-Remove unwanted sounds

The word "Stop" means to pause the recording of a set because another sound is coming into contact with another. Take a moment and allow the noise to pass.

Choose the right team for the situation because you will only have one chance to get the sound, for example doorstepping so this means that the camera and presenter's back.

Work with contributors and if they have unfamiliar accents or speak softly, show them on screen as early on in the sequence as possible. A presenter can clarify

Choose the right music that will not battle with the words that you will be using, it should complement signatures and narrative.

Factual Sound

The real sounds which happen at that moment of time.

Tips:

1.Allow the word 'stop' if any sounds you don't want are at happening at the time of filming stop the filming, make sure everything is happening as you want it to before.

2.Get the right crew so if you can only film once, that one time is enough.

3.Choose the right music, use a type which will flow and compliment the factual sounds.

4. When editing get someone watch the clip when you think you have done to check if its fine.

Fictional Sound

The fake sounds, enhancing, changing the real sounds to make them differently or change the real outcome.

Example, Toy Story, the sound of bullseye licking Woody's face was actually the sound of a crew member got peanut butter and smeared it on his face and then got a cow to lick it off and recorded the sound.

Issues with using fictional sound.

It isn't ethically correct to use fictional sound, using fictional sound implicates a different sound and therefore is giving wrong information to the audience.

Powerpoint

I decided to make a presentation to talk about the differences between factual and fictional sound. Doing this helps me understand the different types of sound and also shows my knowledge of them.

Factual sounds are used to create the sense of reality, its also very immersive and genuine. The audience respects these sounds mainly because they are real.

The main reason fictional sounds are used are because it's easy to create a fake sound than actually go out and try to record the sound. fictional sounds also have a much more effect and add more emphasis.
