Footballers, Sex, Money: What's gone wrong?
This documentary shows how footballers juggle their personal and professional life. Amal Fashanu narrates the film and finds out how youngsters who earn £30,000 per week and retire when they are 30. She sees how these players use the fame in their love life, she meets young women who are wanting to sleep with these players to see if this culture is a normal thing for the players. She uses the Ched Evans situation as an example of the predatory style. She looks at the players inflated egos, pressure, money and large levels of women attention and see how the players handle that differently to their professional life. I will use this and see how this has been successful how it is similar to mine and use some of the techniques Amal used to make her documentary interesting.
Target Audience- 15+
'Class of 92'
'The Class of 92' is a football documentary similar to mine about six teenagers growing up through Manchester United ranks and all becoming first team players at around the same age in 1992. I chose to watch this documentary because it is similar to my idea and will have aspects I will need to use to make a successful documentary.
Target Audience- 12+
Footballers, Sex and Money , What went wrong?
I like the start of this documentary, The narrator displays the problem she wants to find out and she discusses her opinions in the introduction of the documentary. In the documentary she states the facts and statistics of the first problem she discusses which is sex scandals and affairs which the footballers do. Amal states that John Fashanu (her father) and her mother divorced when she was two years old after her mother found out he had an affair. She argues over both points asking if we are to blame over the attention footballers get , or if the footballers are to blame. I like the cinematography in the documentary lots of different shots and she interviews different people in different locations. She introduces different people, with different interests and she wants to find out the other story from other people from both sides. I like the use of the voice of god. She interviews, Dwight Yorke , former footballer , she asks him about the attention and money , his first answer was to "get the most money you can as a footballer because it's a short career and when you stop , the money stops with it."
The mise-en-scene is just smart/casual clothing and the make-up is small amounts.
Overall I would like to make this documentary similar to mine.
'The Class of 92'
I think the start of this documentary is very good, using the players reactions to them watching one of their most important matches in their career. The slow music has an emotional sense towards it. It then shows events which occurred in the year 1992. The mood then lightens up again and shows the young players in Manchester playing for the club with a upbeat music over the images. The players then speak about each of their teammates saying their personality and style. The editing switches from continuous and synchronous throughout the clips and interviews.I really like the editing in the documentary and I would like my editing to be similar to it. The mood then starts to get emotional about Sir Matt Busby. I like the whole effect of the documentary as it gives the audience more of an insight of the player's life and their breakthrough, Overall I want my documentary to be like this one as it is interesting and enjoyable.
In my documentary I want to use similar editing like "The Class Of 92'".
I think that the editing in that documentary is very good and it mixes from being synchronous and continuous. I like the editing in this documentary over "Footballers:Money, Sex ,What went wrong?" although both of the editing styles are good, I think the "Class of 92" would be better for my documentary. I think the mise-en-scene in both the documentaries are very similar which are both just casual clothing and the locations of filming are similar, low-key places. The cinematography also is similar but I prefer the "F:M,S,WWW?" because it has a good range of angles compared to "The class of 92" I will use angles and the cinematography like "F:M,S,WWW?".
Sound is used a lot more in "the class of 92" I like this because it sets the mode and emotions in the documentary, overall I prefer "The class of 92" because it uses different features and it keeps you much more interested in the documentary. I do argue that the other documentary has a different mode and is more about a question to be answered rather than "The class of 92" is just an expository documentary showing more of an insight in the players breakthrough based around "Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt,Gary Neville and Phil Neville."
