3D Environment

Definition of 3D Environment

Mine- A 3D environment is the terrain of which the game is played on, the environment is the base and one of the first things you create.

Real Definition- 3D Interactive environments are often referred to as virtual reality or interactive 3D and have a figurative appearance. Much like our own world, this type of world allows interaction with other (networked) beings as well as manipulation of objects (Loeffler & Andersen 1994). They are a kind of virtual habitat.

Similar Game Environments

Grand Theft Auto 5-

Texturing- The texture of the game seems light and thorough, Very good detail of each individual bit of the game.

Lighting- The lighting is very bright and colourful,

Shadows- The shadows are very realistic and match well with the objects which they would reflect.

Terrain- The terrain has many levels and different aspects of the game.

Animations- Because of the genre and real-life aspects the animations have to match the environment and genre.

Sleeping Dogs-

Texturing- The textures are full and dark making the game look more realistic.

Lighting- The lighting is very bright from the street and city lights, the developers have introduced this to make the city look more full and big, it's easier to create a feeling for the audience that way. Although the location is dark the reflections of the city lights make the location look bright, doing so makes the audience feel like the character is in a busy city, full of people.

Shadows- The shadows and reflections make the audience feel like the character is in a busy city, you can see the reflections from the large lights and shadows from the skyscrapers, this then makes us feel like a small part of the world although the story line displays that the character is in charge and strong.

Terrain- The terrain is large and open, this shows a aspect of immersion and escapism, because the storyline is solo and single player this works for the story line.

Animations- Similar to GTA V the game is realistic and based on a real life world, so the animations have to be realistic.

Progress

This is a map plan of a 3D environment, it was taken in real life and I choose the photo as I thought it matched with the brief plan and allowed me to edit the picture in the certain way.
In this photo I added a filter of a orange tinge on the photo to make it look more like an apocalyptic world. I choose orange because the colour orange relates to apocalypse and darker skies.
Here I added a bunch of balloons onto the bumper car because as it is in a fun fair/circus I wanted to add balloons onto the car to show that it is a fair. The balloons also relate back to the brief because the brief asked for balloons to be added into the map.
On this part I then further and added a zebra because I then wanted to emphasise more that the location was at a apocalyptic and abandoned circus in the 1960's this then shows this more with the zebra as in the 1960's there were zebra acts in the circus.

Unity Environments

This is a slideshow of me creating a simple 3D environment and the tools I used to create it. These tools helped me shape the terrain and make it different textures, shapes and sizes.

Tools making a 3D environment

- This tool makes the map terrain move up. This tool can be used to create hills, mountains or just to raise the floor up.

-This tool brings the terrain up and down to create either a hole in the map or like a black hole,

- This adds texture onto the maps and terrain, making it either look like rock, wood, grass etc.

- This tool chooses the colour and adds more detail.
